Panel
In this panel discussion, we'll be asking three PostgreSQL committers -- Andres Freund, Heikki Linnakangas, and a player to be named later -- to react in real time to PostgreSQL patch ideas that haven't been disclosed to them in advance. For each idea, we'll ask them whether it's a good idea that would be worth including in PostgreSQL. Even if they think it's a terrible idea, we'll also want to hear how they would go about trying to implement it if for some crazy reason they decided to do so. What would be the main technical challenges? What would be the important design considerations? How would they decompose it into smaller projects for ease of review? How would they test it, validate performance, and assess any backward-compatibility considerations? The moderator will prepare a list of ideas to be proposed to the panel during the session, and will accept suggestions for additional ideas in advance of and during the session via Discord chat. This panel discussion will be moderated by Robert Haas.
