Cominco
Workshop
In this workshop, we will work hands-on in a small group setting to learn how to read and interpret the SQL standard and how to ponder and implement changes. First, an introduction will be given on the different parts and sections and key concepts of the standard. Then, we will take several examples (possibly from mailing list discussions, possibly provided by the participants) and try to to resolve technical and interpretation questions. In the last part, we will try our hands on contemplating and writing change proposals.
The goal of this workshop is to enable participants to become themselves redistributors of this knowledge to their collaborators, and to be able to become informed participants on these matters during the development of PostgreSQL. If it turns out someone ends up wanting to join the SQL standards process, that could be a bonus.
Participants should be knowledgeable about the SQL language already, and ideally have had some experience in areas such as resolving SQL conformance questions, documenting SQL language features in PostgreSQL, implementing or reviewing patches that implement SQL language features, or working on tools or processes for migrating SQL from other implementations.
